2.4 The Force – Balancing Faith and Wisdom
We started with the concept of god-consciousness and how this perspective is universally available, not particular to any religion, coming from deep inside us instead of externally.
And we can see the power of this perspective demonstrated through the previous two sections. We may use it to unlock new wisdom, form new beliefs about the world, and follow those beliefs deeper into the path of self-discovery. The two are self-reinforcing, working in sync, one leaves off where the other begins.
“I have come home at last! Come further up and come further in!”
C.S. Lewis, The Last Battle
In some situations, our beliefs burn hot inside us and we must unleash them, bending reality to them. Other times, we must pull instead of push and take a step back to understand where to start. They work together, they are opposite perspectives of the same coin. You must use your intuition to keep them in balance or else you will become blind and dogmatic.
Intuition is that quiet voice inside of us, that we can hear more prominently through meditation other techniques discussed in Chapter 3. When faced with a decision, intuition is what guides us to take a ‘step back’ with our wisdom or a ‘step forward’ with our faith.
In chapter I, we discussed how religions offer practices to cultivate a mindset. Here we have talked about them in their evolved form, wisdom taking us to a higher perspective to deepen our beliefs.
We now own the power to our own salvation, the journey further in. This journey inward grows our intuition, making us aware of the subtleties that lie within in us which resonate across the whole universe. Using it as a guide, it elevates our wisdom to a higher level and grounds our beliefs into the fundamental nature of human beings.
