2.3 Stoic Wisdom
This ‘high’ we receive from elevated perspective does not only feed our imagination. When we step away from our ego, into this grandiose view of our connectedness to the cosmos, we can see the world through a lens untainted by our own impressions.
We see ourselves, and indeed everyone around us, as agents of the cosmos playing out its archetypes; gaining the clairvoyance to understand how we may manipulate it to achieve our goals.
A fool says, “he made me angry”, a wiser person understands that anger was their choice based on their own assumptions about themselves. Even further, one could even understand how to further expand their definition of themselves to meet this enemy as a friend. For instance, we recognize our sibling is only taunting us because they are jealous and we can short circuit that reaction by framing our successes as extensions of the skills they helped us develop.
Wisdom also offers us clear discernment of right and wrong. Not just in a simple sense (it is bad to lie) but understanding the complexity of our actions, both how they sow seeds into your own minds and cast ripples out unto the world (when is it appropriate to tell a lie, when are we lying to ourselves, etc.).
With this objective view as opposed to a self-centered view, we can see the world as a stage and enlist each person playing their role towards pursuit of our goals, like a game of chess. In this view, we are respecting people where they are at, using that understanding to move them where we can instead of trying to change people which might appeal to the less patient but is not a long-term solution.
Patience is the companion of wisdom
If we look out across reality and see it as a logical system of cause and effect, we can move mountains with a single breath. Therefore, there is no room left to be a victim of our reality, our enemy didn’t make us angry, they acted out right on schedule, it is our mistake for not anticipating it. There is no need for heaven to work miracles any more, perspective grants us the wisdom to perform this magic from inside our own heads.
